JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. — Locals, business owners and property owners have the chance to take a tour of Jacksonville Beach and give feedback of what they saw in the form of a survey.
Local Jim Overby says he's lived in Jacksonville for more than 40 years, and thought the tour could be beneficial.
"It has to do with future development and they want to figure out where downtown is going from here," said Overby.
We asked Jacksonville Beach Mayor Charlie Latham if the reason for the tours stemmed from last year's Memorial Day beach brawl, but he says no.
"Memorial Day is not an issue with us," said Latham.
He tells me the reason the tours are happening is to try and turn it into a family-friendly area.
"We've got some great establishments and bars and pubs too, we just want to find the right mix," said Latham.
Overby says last year's brawl gave Jax Beach a bad reputation it didn't deserve.
Latham says the surveys will be due on the 28th of this month. Once officials get all the surveys in they'll hold public hearings to discuss them.
