Jacksonville Fire Rescue breaks ground on new fire station to address growing needs

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — In response to the growing demand for rescue services, the City of Jacksonville has announced the construction of a new fire station. Mayor Lenny Curry, joined by representatives from the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD), took part in a groundbreaking ceremony at the future site of Fire Station 22 located at 6575 Lenox Ave.

On Tuesday, May 23 at 10:00 a.m., the event marked the beginning of a project aimed at enhancing emergency response capabilities in the area.

The new fire station will replace the existing Fire Station 22 situated on Jammes Road once construction is completed, estimated to be within the next nine months.

During the ceremony, Mayor Lenny Curry expressed his admiration for the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, emphasizing its reputation as the best in the business.

“I say this every time, but it still rings true: we have the best Fire Department in the business,” stated Mayor Curry. “I am proud to stand behind them and invest in making our neighborhoods safer. As I round out my term as Mayor, I am incredibly grateful for the leadership and dedication of Chief Powers and the sacrifice and commitment of every man and woman who wears that uniform.”

The construction project for Fire Station 22 is being undertaken by Auld & White Constructors, LLC, a reputable construction firm with expertise in public infrastructure development. The new facility will be equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities to support the JFRD in its crucial role of protecting the community and saving lives.

As construction progresses, further updates regarding the development of Fire Station 22 will be provided to keep the public informed about this crucial addition to Jacksonville’s emergency response infrastructure.
