Jacksonville police: Father shoots son in the shoulder in New Town

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating after a father reportedly shot his adult son in New Town on Friday afternoon.

The incident happened in the 1500 block of West 2nd Street.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said officers were dispatched to reports of shots fired around 5:35 p.m.

The victim and the suspect -- an adult son and his father -- were in front of the house, police said. The son had a gunshot wound to his left shoulder and was taken to UF Health Jacksonville with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said are still trying to figure out if there was an argument between the two. The father is in custody, JSO said.
