Report: Jacksonville nurse stole, pawned $10,000 in jewelry, cash from patient

Rhonda Cole

A woman was arrested after pawning 28 pieces of jewelry and $10,000 from an elderly woman in Jacksonville, a police report said.

Rhonda Cole, 41, was arrested by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office on July 26.

Cole said although she did not take the money and jewelry from the victim's safe, she did take the bag of money and jewelry that she saw near the driveway of the victim who was also her client.

The 87-year-old victim kept her jewelry and $10,000 in a combination lock that also needed a key to open the safe. The victim reported the money and jewelry missing July 1.

The police said there were three sets of keys. The victims' homer health care workers had access to one of the sets of keys.

The victim had been diagnosed with an early case of dementia.

The report said that none of the three health care workers pawned any of the items -- except for Cole.

Officers reported that Cole had pawned off 28 pieces of jewelry from April 30 to July 15. Cole had worked three times for the victim but then let her go because Cole made the victim feel uncomfortable.

Some of the jewelry was recovered, but much of it had already been pawned off.

A fingerprint analysis identified Cole's fingerprints on all the transactions she made at the pawn shop.

The suspect said she admitted that she did not own the items and had no right to sell the items.
