The Jacksonville Zoo confirmed with Action News Jax that a lion was involved in an incident with a zookeeper before the zoo opened on Wednesday.
Zoo officials said the lion was too close to an employee but that the situation was under control within minutes.
According to officials, there were two zookeepers at the lion exhibit when the incident happened.
The second zookeeper was able to warn the employee of danger, and the first zookeeper jumped into the moat to escape the lion, according to zoo officials.
The zookeeper was shocked by the electric fence in the enclosure, but was not seriously injured.
