Jaguars legend John Henderson to lead first ‘DUUUVAL’ ahead of prime-time playoff game

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The first “Duval” chant you’re going to hear Saturday night will be delivered by Jaguars legend, John Henderson.

The momentum of the team’s 5 game-win streaks to close out the regular season has the river city buzzing. Being part of this journey and still being involved in the organization years after retirement means a lot to Henderson.

“Just to be there, doing things being there with the fans and seeing people, I’m grateful to be,” he said. “It’s just so much love that I’m loving it.”

The former Pro-Bowler has played under the bright lights before and in big games. For the playoffs, he said it’s still the same game at the end of the day just with higher stakes. He says this season is a bit different than 2017, the last time the Jags made the playoffs.

“The way this team is doing it is way different and you can see it,” he said. “No distractions and that’s what these guys have done these giving each other no distractions and they been focused the whole way.”

While Henderson is known for the slap to the face, Saturday night it’s the vocal cords.

“My helmet is off...and nobody is going to be slapping me so that’s the only two different things,” Henderson said with a laugh.

For the fans who packed TIAA Bank Field in week 17, Henderson wants the same energy for the Chargers game.

“I know it’s helping the guys and I know the energy is going, so we got to keep it going for Saturday, we got to,” Henderson said.
