JSO finds driver accused of driving Jeep into Westside home

The driver of the Jeep that plowed through the garage of a Westside home said he had been drinking before he ran from the scene, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said in a report.

JSO first tried to talk with the driver, now identified as Jacoby King, at the Chrysler Jeep Dodge where he works.

A manager gave officers a phone number for King's mother and she got them in contact with a lawyer.

She said her son had called her in a panic and would only tell her he couldn't say what happened.

King and his attorney met with officers on May 9 and King admitted he had been drinking before he lost control of the red 1991 Jeep Wrangler and left the roadway.

King was arrested and charged with reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

Lauren Daniels, who lives at the home, said she has been dealing with the owner's insurance company, which may cover only $10,000 of the damage, leaving her to cover the rest.

Daniels said the crash caused about $60,000 in damage. Video from a house near the scene recorded the crash as 3:13 a.m. on May 6, according to the police report.
The Jeep was abandoned at the scene, and JSO noted that it was affixed with an advertisement for a dealership in the spot where a license plate would be displayed.
JSO went to the dealership to find Jacoby but instead talked to his mother, who put JSO with an attorney claiming to be representing King.
