LAKE CITY, Fla. — A Lake City man was arrested Thursday after police executed a search warrant at his home in connection with an internet crimes against children investigation. Matthew Kern, 39, faces 20 counts of promoting sexual performance by a child and 20 counts of possessing child sexual conduct material.
Detectives with the Lake City Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children unit executed the residential search warrant at 540 NW Oakmont Way. Personnel from Homeland Security Investigations and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team assisted in serving the warrant. During the operation, investigators collected electronic devices from the home. Homeland Security Investigations personnel conducted forensic examinations on site while officers interviewed the occupants of the residence.
Following the interviews and a review of the forensic findings, investigators arrested Kern and transported him to the Columbia County Detention Center.
