A local 11-year-old bitten by a rattlesnake is now home recovering following a three-day stay in the hospital.
Matthew Myers is going to have quite a story to share with friends Tuesday when he goes back to school.
“Hey guys, I’ve been bitten by a snake,” Matthew said.

Matthew was swimming at his grandmother’s house in Putnam County when he said he stepped near a venomous snake, which he says he had no idea was there.
“I was walking over and I saw a floaty and so I was going to pick it up from the bottom, and the snake was on the same side as me and he bit me,” he said.
Matthew said it was a pygmy rattlesnake. He spent the last few days in the hospital where he got 28 vials of anti-venin.

“They mixed up snake venin and created this anti-venin, and they put IVs in me, and they used the anti-venin inside to fight the anti-venin,” he said.
From now on, Matthew said he is going to be more aware of his surroundings, especially when he’s walking.
“Because you never know what’s going to be there. It could be anything that could bite you,” he said.
Matthew hopes he doesn’t come across a snake anytime soon.
“I’m done with snakes,” Matthew said.
