Man charged with robbing GameStop store in Jacksonville Beach

William Chapman is accused of robbing the Game Stop store on Marsh Landing Parkway.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Beach Police department arrested a man accused of robbing a video game store at gunpoint.

Police said 27-year-old William Joseph Chapman robbed the GameStop on Marsh Landing Parkway Sunday morning.

Investigators said Chapman waited for all the customers to leave, pointed a gun at the cashier, and ran off with the money from the cash register.

Police said Chapman then went into a nearby Target, stole clothes off the rack, changed into them and walked out.

Authorities said Chapman then walked into the restroom of a nearby Chili's restaurant where police said he made a phony 911 call to report a bogus burglary at another business to lure police away from the area.

Officers captured Chapman hiding in the restroom at Chili's.  Police recovered a pellet gun, the stolen cash and a cellphone.

Chapman faces a long list of charges including armed robbery, unlawful use of a two-way communication device, petit retail theft, obstruction by a disguised person and making false 911 calls.
