More than 4,000 without power early Tuesday morning

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — Many woke up without power Tuesday morning in Clay County.

Clay Electric Cooperative manager of communications Wayne Mattox said about 4,055 customers were without power as of 8 a.m. The outages were near Middleburg and Jennings State Forest.

Mattox said the Middleburg substation was out of service Monday for maintenance, which placed the load on other circuits. The colder temperatures early Tuesday morning caused a higher power demand than anticipated and caused the outages in the Middleburg area.

Crews worked to get the power restored as quickly as possible by spreading the load among more circuits. Mattox said the outages should end around 11:15 a.m.

Mattox said in a statement, "We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused our members in the Middleburg area."
