1. Aaron Feis is the first victim of 17 killed identified to the public.
Aaron Feis, an assistant football coach at the high school died a hero. He shielded his students from the bullets by standing in front of them. He later died of his injuries.

2. The suspected shooter was booked into Broward County jail on Thursday morning.
The lone gunman, identified as Nikolas Cruz, 19, was charged 17 counts of premeditated murder. Cruz was a former student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and was taken into custody without incident shortly after the attack, according to the Broward County Sheriff's Office.

3. The school will be closed through the remainder of the week.
There will be no classes or activities held on Feb. 15 and Feb. 16 following the deadly mass shooting.
Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School will be closed Thursday, February 15 and Friday, February 16, 2018, (for the rest of this week). All school activities are also cancelled.

4. All funeral expenses will be paid for by the state of Florida.
State Attorney Pam Bondi says the state will cover all funeral costs of those killed in the shooting, ranging from flower arrangements to to even travel expenses.

5. This is not the first school shooting in 2018. It was the 18th.
According to the nonprofit Every Town for Gun Safety, the Stoneman shooting was the 18th shooting so far this year. The group defines a school shooting as any time a firearm discharges a live round inside a school or campus. Of the 18 shootings, there were eight instances where a gun was fired, but no one was injured.

6. Flags will be flown at half-staff around the state.
