Mayo Clinic Alzheimer's study: Men misdiagnosed more than women

The Mayo Clinic is making new strides in diagnosing Alzheimer’s disease.

After studying brains at the state of Florida brain bank, researchers found women were older when the disease hit and men had a shorter disease duration.

Marge Moir, whose father in-law and mother, were diagnosed with the disease, said new research is a step in the right direction anything to help families understand the devastating disease.

“It’s really important to separate the disease from the individual. And that it’s a person who got a disease, just like any other type of disease,” said Moir.

The study also suggests men are often misdiagnosed and the disease impacts different areas of the brain in men and women.
