JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. — Outdoor dining and drinking are coming to Jax Beach thanks to a recently approved pilot program the city rolled out.
“It’s something that people are attracted too,” says Jax Beach Mayor Chris Hoffman.
Mayor Hoffman says Oaxaca Cub, and Jekyll Brewing will soon open on 1st Ave North and Second Street North something the mayor says residents have always wanted.
“One of the things that we heard from our citizens, our visitors, and our business owners is they would like to see more outdoor dining,” says Hoffman.
Hoffman says this is a result of a pilot program that was recently approved by city council members. She says they’re in the program’s final stages.
“They are going to move forward with an application to have outdoor dining on the city right of way,” says Hoffman.
Mayor Hoffman says people still aren’t allowed to walk through downtown Jax Beach with a drink.
We also asked if this program is successful, and if will they look to expand in the future.
As of right now, there really isn’t a lot of available right-of-way space, where this would work. This is a really obvious first one,” says Hoffman.
Eddy Escriba, operating partner of the Oaxaca club says bringing this restaurant to Jax Beach could bring more life to downtown Jax Beach.
“A great spot where people can enjoy some great Mexican food, a great bar program,” says Hoffman.
We did ask Escriba, with the expected rise in visitors to Jax Beach during spring break and the summer, if are they prepared for an increase in foot traffic--he says yes they are prepared.
