Omni Hotels looks at possible sale of Downtown Jacksonville location

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Omni Hotels and Resorts is looking at possibly selling the Downtown Jacksonville location of one of their hotels because of COVID-19.

“Pursuing the potential sale of assets that no longer align with the direction of our brand was a part of our strategy pre-COVID,” Peter Strebel, president of Omni Hotels & Resorts, said. “The hospitality industry was impacted immensely by the pandemic and as we emerge from this crisis, we must be forward thinking about our brand strategies and portfolio offerings. Reinvesting capital into the convention center and resort market space allows us to grow our business and play to our strengths.”

The Jacksonville hotel is one out of five hotels that are being reviewed for a possible sale. The other hotels are the Omni Dallas Hotel at Park West, Omni Austin Hotel at Southpark, Omni San Antonio Hotel at the Colonnade and Omni Houston Hotel at Westside.

The company has expanded since 2013, building six new convention center hotels and plans on opening three new hotels between October 2020 and 2021.

According to the 2019-2020 State of Downtown Report, the Omni has 354 hotel room. Prior to the pandemic, Downtown Jacksonville was experiencing growth in investments, tourism, and residential life.
