PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — A 67-year-old motorcyclist died Friday night after his motorcycle veered off a rural roadway in Putnam County and overturned, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 10:57 p.m. on County Road 309, about half a mile north of Fort Gates Ferry Road, troopers said.
According to FHP, the motorcycle was traveling south on County Road 309 and was taking a left curve when it failed to maintain its lane, drifting off the pavement onto the right grass shoulder. The motorcycle continued along the shoulder before striking uneven ground, causing it to overturn.
The 50-year-old female passenger was thrown from the motorcycle during the crash and came to rest 10 to 15 feet south of the motorcycle, FHP said.
The motorcycle came to rest on its left side, with the 67-year-old driver pinned beneath part of the vehicle.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger suffered serious injuries. Neither the driver nor the passenger was wearing a helmet, according to FHP’s report.
