JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A popular Avondale restaurant acknowledged on Instagram on Friday that a man who recently plead guilty to fraud was its founder, but that he left more than a year ago and has since prompted the establishment to institute “stronger financial controls.”
Josephine, an Italian restaurant on St. Johns Avenue, posted that 45-year-old George Joshua Floyd’s guilty plea for $1.15 million in fraud has caused it to make changes.
“He has not been involved with Josephine since spring of last year,” the post read, “and has had no role in the restaurant’s operations or management since that time.”
The post described a new operator, manager, and chef that it said have strengthened the business.
“(The team) implemented stronger financial controls and oversight.”
In announcing Floyd’s guilty plea earlier this week, U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe said Floyd faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison.
Floyd also agreed to forfeit $1,159,596.26 in personally obtained proceeds and pay full restitution to the victims, Kehoe said.
