1 dead, 3 injured including child in Putnam County crash

PALATKA, Fla — UPDATE 3:53 a.m. 2/3- Action News Jax obtained the crash report and learned that one man died and three others were injured in this crash. One of the victims was a 5-year-old girl.

According to the crash report, a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling northbound on ST-19 while a 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche was traveling southbound. The Silverado crossed over the center line into the path of the Avalanche, causing the front of the Silverado to collide with the front of the Avalanche.

A 34-year-old man from Hawthorne died in the crash. A 37-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman from Ft. McCoy were seriously injured. The 5-year-old girl suffered only minor injuries.

Reports from the Putnam County Fire Rescue state that at approximately 7 p.m. Thursday evening, crews were called to the scene of a fatal vehicle accident.

Putnam County Fire Rescue is responding to a motor vehicle accident with fire on S. State Road 19 and E. Pinellas St.

Initial call notes state a head on collision involving a semi truck resulting in a fire, possibly leading to a level 1 mass casualty incident. Three helicopters are being launched for patient transport.

There will be complete road blockage for several hours, authorities urge drivers to avoid that area.
