‘I love you’: Florida deputy tears up as daughter answers his final call before retirement

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — After 29 years of service, Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Dominic Piscitello signed off of his final call before retirement on Wednesday and a very special person was there to answer him: His daughter.

As soon as Capt. Piscitello hears her voice on the other end, he immediately tears up.

Here’s what she said to him:

“SO 6, Capt. Dominic Piscitello, with immense pride and great honor, today, August 31, 2022, at 11:01, I, your daughter receive your final transmission. Twenty-nine years ago, as a 7-year-old girl, I watched in adoration as you, the father of 4, graduated from the police academy and made your dream a reality. Today, on your retirement you receive many things. The Sheriff’s Office thanks you, the people who you have protected and served in this community thank you, and I thank you for being the greatest role model a child could ask for. I have listened to you call on and off duty countless times. Captain Piscitello, SO 6, Alpha 310, Dad, at 11:01, you have safely reached the finish line. For a final time, show yourself off duty. Congratulations. I love you.”

Action News Jax previously spoke to Capt. Piscitello in 2015, as he was one of the investigators working on the 2009 disappearance of 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings. To date, she has not been found.

“We are constantly working on anything that comes in,” Capt. Piscitello told us of the case in 2015.

In 2015, Capt. Piscitello also spoke to the similarities between Haleigh’s disappearance and the disappearance of Jacksonville toddler Lonzie Barton, and found out they are distant cousins. Lonzie’s body was later found in Jacksonville in early 2016.
