A woman ran over her 6-year-old grandson Sunday at a Regency apartment complex, witnesses told Action News Jax.
Jacksonville police said the traffic accident happened in the area of 300 Monument Road. Witnesses at Bella Terraza Apartments told Action News Jax the child was pinned under a vehicle.
In a briefing, JSO Public Information Officer Christian Hancock said officers responded to the scene at about 2 p.m. where officers learned that a vehicle struck the boy.
Police confirm the accident occurred in a parking lot at the apartment complex. The vehicle, for reasons yet to be confirmed, drove onto a sidewalk, hitting the young boy who was also on the sidewalk.
Witnesses are saying the child was unresponsive when the paramedics arrived.
A witness said he saw the crash and called 911. He said he heard the grandmother screaming after running over the child.
The child was taken to a local hospital and is in life-threatening condition, Hancock said. Traffic homicide is taking over the investigation.
There is no foul play involved, police said.
