Shooting near Jacksonville Fairgrounds injures teen

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting, which happened not far from the fairgrounds, that injured an 18-year-old Saturday.

Officers went to the Avenue Market on A. Philip Randolph Boulevard about 11:10 p.m. after hearing gunshots.

JSO officers said they found five vehicles that were struck by bullets.

Shortly after, an 18-year-old man arrived at UF health with a single gunshot wound to his back.

The victim told police he was driving in a vehicle when he was shot.

Police said they do not have any information to suggest that the shooting was in any way connected to the fair, despite it being about one-tenth of a mile from the fairgrounds.

Action News Jax reached out to the Sheriff’s Office to find if it plans to increase security at or around the fair because of the shooting.
