Rep. Corrine Brown to appear in federal court Friday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Sources within law enforcement told Action News Jax documents will be "served" in Rep. Corrine Brown probe.

Rep. Brown told Action News Jax after she landed at Jacksonville International Airport on Thursday night that she is set to appear in federal court Friday afternoon.

A news conference is planned for Friday in the federal probe of Brown, sources tell Action News Jax.

In March, the House of Representatives initiated a committee to investigate Brown for inappropriate conduction, including allegations in the workplace.

An Action News Jax investigation revealed that the One Door for Education charity, an organization linked to Brown, raised money that was later found not to go toward scholarships and other non profits as advertised.

Approximately $800,000 in deposits were made to On Door, but only one scholarship for $1,000 was ever awarded.

The document also say between 2012 and 2015, money was used to hold parties at luxury hotels in Washington, D.C., pay for alcoholic beverages during a reception and for a fundraising in a luxury box during a music concert at an arena.

Our Washington bureau crew asked Rep. Brown for comments on the latest developments as she got into an elevator on Thursday afternoon, and she stayed silent.

Action News Jax's Michael Yoshida caught up with Rep. Brown after she landed at Jacksonville International Airport on Thursday night. She responded "no comment" to several of his questions, but also said she had some "theories" about what happened.

Rep. Brown also confirmed to Yoshida that she is set to appear in federal court at 1:30 p.m. Friday.
