St. Johns County firefighters head to help in massive West Coast fire

Right now, local firefighters and equipment from across Northeast Florida are on their way to the front lines of massive and deadly wildfires burning on the West Coast.

Some local crews are already there.

The Florida Forest Service told Action News Jax this week that 10 local firefighters and their equipment are already battling the Ferguson fire in California, with more on the way.

“I know California wanted 150 brush trucks just like this. I know a few of our guys are driving from Florida over to California,” ranger Michael Bowman said.

FFS officials said additional local fire crews could be on the front lines on West Coast wildfires within 48 hours from Tuesday.
