ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — Charges have been filed against the driver of a St. Augustine trolley that crashed and injured 12 people in July of 2021.

The driver, Gregory Robinson (72), has been charged with reckless driving with serious bodily injury and damage to person or property by the State Attorney’s Office. The first charge is a third-degree felony.
Robinson now has an $11,000 bond.
St. Augustine police told Action News Jax that the third and last trolley turned on its side when Robinson made a turn into a parking lot.
In the police report, several passengers told detectives they recalled the driver saying a variation of “hold onto your hats, hold onto your children” before he “gunned it” and “started going really fast.”
According to the investigation, Robinson continued to drive forward, dragging the trolley car and its trapped passengers.
In the released 911 calls for the crash, passengers can be heard saying, “People aren’t breathing, there’s people not moving.”

Action News Jax showed you body cam footage of the aftermath of the crash in August of 2021. Some passengers were thrown from the trolley and others were pinned underneath.
Of the 12 injured people, most had minor injuries while three were moderately injured, according to a City of St. Augustine spokesperson. All 12 people were taken to local hospitals.
In November of 2021, three people sued Robinson and the trolley company.
