JTA holds virtual ribbon cutting for St. Johns Express Select Shuttle

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — If you live in St. Johns County, but work in Downtown Jacksonville, the Jacksonville Transportation Authority has an easier way for you to make your daily commute.

It’s called the St. Johns Express-Select Shuttle.

Action News Jax Courtney Cole explains how it works and how much it will cost.

This morning, The JTA held a virtual ribbon cutting for their latest express select shuttle for St. Johns County Commuters.

"Because so many people live in St. Johns County and work in Downtown Jacksonville, expanding our select express services just made sense!" exclaimed Kevin Holzendorf, the Chairman of the Jacksonville Transportation Authority.

As a JTA rider 6 days out of the week, Joe Williams, likes the idea of anything that will make it easier to get around the area.

“Everything they do is to improve the customer service, and I appreciate that,” Williams told Action News Jax Courtney Cole.

The shuttle has been up-and-running for a month now. It was launched on July 6th, along with Baker Express-Select.

The first Express-Select shuttle was launched for Nassau commuters in 2019.

The St. Johns Express-Select shuttle starts its route at the St. Johns County Government Center, stops at The Pavilion at Durbin Park and then drops commuters off at the Jacksonville Regional Transportation Center in LaVilla.

“For some people, that commute can be anywhere between 1 to 2 hours one-way, depending on traffic, the latest construction project and any accident or any number of factors. We think there’s a better way for you to get to work,” said Nat Ford, the CEO of JTA.

Unlike a traditional JTA bus route, the commuter shuttle drives a direct route to-and-from the Jacksonville Regional Transportation Center.

The shuttle does the northbound route twice each weekday morning, and once in the afternoon.

Then it makes three southbound trips to St. Johns County during the afternoon and evening.

  • The Baker Express-Select leaves each morning and afternoon from the JTA’s Baldwin Park-n-Ride station to the Jacksonville Regional Transportation Center at LaVilla 0r JRTC for short.
  • The Nassau Express Select leaves downtown Yulee and stops at our Armsdale Park-n-Ride facility off Lem Turner before arriving at the JRTC.
  • From the JRTC they can catch a JTA bus, the First Coast Flyer or the Skyway to continue their journeys. They can also walk across the elevated pedestrian bridge to access Greyhound, Megabus and Red Coach Lines.

All three Express-Select routes run Monday – Friday, with the exception of holidays. One-way fares are $3. One day passes are $5 and monthly passes are $90. Passes can be purchased using the MyJTA app for iOS and Android mobile devices.
