THE PLAYERS Championship and Nemours team up to promote health for kids

PONTE VEDRA, Fla. — Friday marked the second round of THE PLAYERS Championship, and 6-year-old Connor Anderson couldn’t wait to watch the tournament.

He’s an avid golf fan.

“I’m going to watch the golfers play,” Connor said.

This week, Nemours celebrated its “youth days” at THE PLAYERS Championship, but this year because of COVID-19, their kid zone went virtual.

Those who can’t make it out to THE PLAYERS because of the limited capacity are able to go online and interact with a number of kid-friendly activities.

These include word searches and coloring books as well as health tips.

Dr. Larry Moss is the President and CEO of Nemours. He told Action News Jax the partnership between THE PLAYERS allows them to promote health for children.

“We mean a lot more than medical care, so actually the vast majority of things that keep kids healthy don’t have anything to do with medical care. They’re exercise, they’re good nutrition, they’re good education and they’re freedom from violence,” Dr. Moss said.

On Wednesday, Nemours also had a scavenger hunt to get kids moving around the course.

THE PLAYERS and Nemours have a close relationship.

Last year, THE PLAYERS donated $500,000 to help the hospital pay for renovations to its downtown Jacksonville children’s specialty care clinic lobby, which helps more than 100,000 patients each year.

As for Connor, getting out and playing golf is something that keeps him healthy and active.

“I like to hit my driver,” he said.

The Nemours welcome center will be open throughout the rest of the weekend.
