SJSO dive team rescues man from retention pond behind bestbet

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a man is okay after he drove into a retention pond behind bestbet early Thursday morning.

According to police at the scene, dive teams were dispatched after an SUV hit a pole and spun into the pond between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. The driver suffered no injuries from the crash.

Police told Action News Jax that the driver was the only person in the car and that they do not believe impairment led to the crash.

At this time, police are packing up at the scene and will be leaving shortly.
