Stray bullet from Mandarin armed home invasion goes into neighbor's apartment

The scary part is, someone with no connection to a home invasion could have been shot. A bullet went through a couch and the wall into the apartment next door.

A woman told police she was sitting at her desk in the living room when she heard a loud pop. She then began to crawl to the back of the bedroom where her husband was sleeping.

The family told Action News Jax they moved out because they weren’t sure if it was safe to stay there.

The people next door said two men, one who had a gun, broke into their apartment. They said the men pistol-whipped someone sitting on the couch inside the apartment, and that’s when a shot was fired.

The victims said their old roommate was the one who brought the men inside.

“I’ve never heard of anything like that happening here,” said Kayla Draughn, a neighbor.

Draughn said she is surprised to hear about a home invasion happening in her apartment complex. Neighbors said they hope this is an isolated, and it doesn’t happen again.

“We don’t want this in our apartment at all,” said Draughn.

The victims said the thieves took their TV and cellphones. At this time, no arrests have been made.
