UPDATE: One dead, six transported after crash on SR-9B near E-Town Parkway

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE 5:50 p.m.: The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department reported six people were transported for medical assistance, and one person has died following the crash at State Road 9B and E-Town Parkway.

The crash happened at 12:20 p.m. on Sunday, August 3.

Based on the report from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), two sport utility vehicles were traveling North on State Road 9B just north of E-Town Parkway within Duval County.

The sport utility vehicle with five passengers sideswiped the other sport utility vehicle when making a lane change, causing both to lose control.

A 29-year-old woman, who was one of the passengers in the sport utility vehicle with five people, died at the scene.

According to the FHP report, the woman who died was from Mooresville, North Carolina.

All other occupants were transported to the hospital for serious injuries.

Drivers are still urged to avoid the areas as emergency crews remain on scene.

The Florida Highway Patrol and Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office are responding to a crash on State Road 9B Southbound, just south of the E-Town Parkway exit.

According to JSO, the crash will keep the roadway down to one lane for a substantial amount of time as crews respond to the scene.

As of 12:49 p.m., traffic is being diverted, and drivers should expect significant delays in the area.

 The on-ramp from E-Town Parkway is also closed, and two northbound right lanes remain blocked.

Officials are urging drivers to slow down or move over near the scene for first responders.
