JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry announced Thursday that two coronavirus testing sites, Mandarin Senior Center and the Lane Wiley Senior Center, are being converted into vaccination sites by this upcoming Monday.
Those sites will only be offering vaccinations for those 65 or older and for frontline healthcare workers.
At this time, it’s unclear how many people will be able to get the vaccine a day, but Curry said he will have another briefing on Friday, Jan. 8 with more information on the two sites.
Curry said with the limited availability of the vaccine, continuing to take preventative measures to slow the spread of the virus is still the best way of combating the pandemic.
“Our numbers are trending upward, the virus is spreading as we knew it would, that’s why it’s crucial that we continue the safe practices we have engaged in over the past year.” Curry said.
The CDC says three ways you can prevent the spread of the virus is to wear a mask, practice social distancing and to avoid crowds. They also recommend washing your hands often and covering your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or do it into your elbow.
We reached out to the city to ask what will happen to the coronavirus testing supplies at the two sites and they tell us they will be going to other testing sites across the city. They say since the other testing sites in the city have never reached capacity they feel confident that they can still provide access to testing.
