The contract for a Jacksonville transgender professor who is running for Congress is not being renewed, reports say.
University of North Florida professor Monica DePaul told Action News Jax on Thursday that her contract was not renewed.
DePaul said the university made the decision because of a disagreement over curriculum.
The UNF Spinnaker reported Thursday that Monica DePaul contacted the student newsroom and said she was fired from the university.
DePaul sent an email to the student newsroom that stated: “You will need to adjust your report to say that I am a former professor at UNF. As of today, I have been fired.”
Later that day, DePaul rescinded the statement and instead said the university decided not to renew her contract that expired.
DePaul has been an adjunct English professor for five years at the university.
She said she is still running for Congress. "This just makes it all more important," she told Action News Jax.
DePaul said she's applied for a job at Amazon.
