U.S. Geological Survey: Earthquake off Florida's east coast was Navy 'experimental explosion'

The U.S. Geological Survey now says an earthquake off the shore of Daytona Beach this weekend was caused by a Navy experimental explosion.

The earthquake was recorded Saturday and measured 3.7 in magnitude.

Action News Jax contacted the Navy Monday morning and a local spokesperson told us the earthquake was not due to an experimental explosion.

But according to the U.S.G.S. website, it clearly says the quake was caused by a Navy experimental explosion.

We have reached out to a Navy spokesperson again and we will bring you their response as soon as we get it.
