Video appears to show woman running from gunfire at Jacksonville block party

Video posted to Facebook appears to show a woman running from gunfire at a block party in Jacksonville.

Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said up to 1,000 people were at the party on A Philip Randolph Boulevard Saturday night when dozens of shots were fired.

A man in his 20s was killed, JSO said.

“I got up here earlier, there wasn’t that many people,” John Wilson said. “Then all of a sudden, you look around and they’re everywhere. They’re in the streets, I mean cars can’t get by.”

Wilson told Action News Jax that neighbors who grew up on Jacksonville’s Eastside were having their annual reunion at A Philip Randolph Park – something they’ve been doing for years.

He says after the reunion, more and more people from outside the community started showing up.

“A lot of people who were up here aren’t from out east,” he said. “I don’t know where they came from. A lot of them were young.”

Wilson, a member of the Eastside Brotherhood, said he was walking into the club building when shots rang out.

“I was going inside and as the crowd rushed the door, I was pushed inside and I’m a big guy,” he said.

Action News Jax saw what appeared to be bullet holes in two windows of a nearby building Sunday, and evidence markers lined the sidewalk.

JSO has not yet identified the man killed in the shooting.

“I don’t want anybody to think that, OK the Eastside community, the problem exists there. No. It’s individuals that exist and come into our community and cause this. This is a city-wide problem,” said Serena, a neighbor who didn’t want to give her last name.

Action News Jax reached out to JSO and the City of Jacksonville to find out if the agencies were aware the reunion or block party were happening.

We also asked if extra officers were in the area but have yet to hear back.

Officers are urging anyone with information about the shooting to call JSO or Crime Stoppers.
