NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. — Action News spoke with a witness who followed a suspect from a Walmart parking lot, following an attempted murder.
Kyle Davis said he was in the Walmart parking lot Tuesday afternoon when he witnessed the aftermath of what Nassau County deputies originally called a hit and run. Investigators later upgraded the incident to an attempted murder.
“I saw a cart on its side and a bunch of people panicking and I saw a car take off,” Kyle Davis described to Action News.
Davis, who is former military, said his instinct kicked in and he began following the car. He said several other witnesses also followed.
“I chased him about 50 miles per hour down the road for about two miles,” said Davis. “He came to a stop at his house and made a left into the grass and ran into the gate in the backyard.”
Moments later Davis said the suspect began firing.
“He shot off four to six shots,” said Davis. “I don’t know where he shot at, but we all went to the neighbor’s house basically and from there we waited for the cops to show up.”
Investigators said the suspect also fired at deputies after they arrived on scene.
At 11 p.m., the Nassau Lakes community remained a crime scene.
“They’ve got bomb squad here,” he said. “They’ve got cop cars and trucks here, probably 60-plus cops here right now.”
