SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. — While an Arkansas family is dealing with the destruction of their home after Monday's EF2 tornado, they are grateful that one room was undamaged: the closet.
Rachel Smith received a weather alert on her phone and grabbed her two children to take shelter in their home's master closet just before the tornado struck, KFSM reported. Smith told KFSM that the storm was loud, with lots of banging, glass breaking and wind ripping through the foundation of the family's home, which was built just two years ago.
When the storm finally subsided, neighbors came over to help the family survey the damage. "The master wall fell in on the bed, the living room wall had fallen in, the roof on the other side of the house over one of the boys' rooms is completely gone," Smith told KFSM.
Smith was emotional when she told KFSM that while the family had not lived in the home very long, it's just stuff and that her family being safe is all that matters.
The National Weather Service upgraded the storm to an EF2 after assessing the damage, KHBS reported.
