MIAMI — A Florida man and his grandson recently decided to give magnet fishing a shot and reeled in a 40-pound catch – two guns.
According to the Miami Herald and WFOR-TV, Duane Smith, 61, and his grandson, 11-year-old Allen Cadwalader, thought they might find some scrap metal when they lowered a magnet into a Princeton canal on Sunday. But only five minutes into the outing, their magnet latched onto a .50-caliber Barrett rifle wrapped in plastic. Moments later, they found another, the outlets reported.

The pair returned home, where Smith cleaned the weapons, WFOR reported. That’s when he noticed that the rifles were missing serial numbers.
“At that point, they are illegal for me to possess, and we notified the police,” Smith told WFOR.
Miami-Dade police retrieved the guns, which have been sent to their forensics department for further investigation, the news station reported.
