The Missouri Highway Patrol announced on Twitter that a small plane had landed on the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 early Friday, blocking the roadway.

Troopers said that the plane, which was flying from Florida to an airport in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, ran out of fuel, KSHB reported.

Troopers said on Twitter that the pilot communicated via radio about the fuel situation, and upon landing had a “minor collision” with a guardrail. Investigators said that the planes pilot, John T. Seesing, was intoxicated and arrested.

A Missouri State Highway Patrol arrest report showed that Seesing was charged with DWI, felony possession of a controlled substance, felony unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of less than 10 grams of marijuana. Seesing was released from jail, according to online records.

Investigators told KMBC that the pilot was the only person on board the plane, and he suffered only minor injuries.
