‘You aren’t social distancing:’ Man says before opening fire in Miami Beach hotel, police say

MIAMI — A Florida man opened fire inside a Miami Beach hotel Monday when he got upset that others around him were not social distancing, investigators said.

Douglas Marks got into an altercation with a woman and her son inside the lobby at the Crystal Beach Suites, WPLG reported.

"You aren't social distancing," Marks said, according to police. He told Veronica Parks and her son, who are from New Mexico, that they needed to leave before he pulled out a gun and fired several shots.

No one was injured.

According to investigators, Marks told them he was being followed then asked the front desk to call 911 before firing four warning shots, WPLG reported.

Marks was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm in public, according to jail records.
