MOBILE, Ala. — It may be the off season for NFL players, including the Jaguars, but for Jaguars General Manager Dave Caldwell it’s go time. He’s in charge of upgrading a Jaguars roster that is very young.
It begins for Caldwell this week in Mobile, Alabama at the Senior Bowl.
"When you do it with youth, you're going to have adversity and you're going to have a lot of it early on. We said that it's going to pay dividends and we're going to build this the right way," he said.
So while the team plans to spend dollars in free agency, Caldwell remains committed to his plan of building through the draft.
"We’re going to build it through the draft and we’re going to be wise with the cap until we feel like we can compete. We weren’t going to do it until we feel like we had the quarterback situation resolved," he said.
This week, he’ll be watching closely and listening to his coaches. Caldwell’s coaching staff in Mobile are coaching the South squad, which the Jaguars general manager believes is a big advantage.
