1 dead, 1 seriously injured in semi versus box truck crash on county line

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol reported Thursday morning that a man is dead after a semi truck and box truck crash on I-95 at Race Track Road.

According to the crash report from FHP, a semi tractor trailer was merging onto I-95 northbound from the outside shoulder as a box truck was approaching. The box truck rear-ended the semi tractor trailer.

The 31-year-old man in the passenger seat of the box truck was pronounced dead at the scene. The 22-year-old box truck driver suffered serious injuries and the 36-year-old semi truck driver suffered minor injuries. Both drivers were transported to local hospitals.

The northbound side of I-95 was blocked at County Road 210 for several hours, but all lanes are back open now.

In 2018, the website Value Penguin lists I-95 from Florida to Maine as the third most dangerous road in the country, with about 55 deadly crashes per 100 miles.
