Karen Taffanelli is a distinguished bilingual journalist and media professional from Bayamón, Puerto Rico, with more than 17 years of experience in the industry, primarily across the Orlando and Tampa, Florida markets. Her career is defined by her ability to lead news initiatives, develop relevant content for Hispanic audiences, and strengthen the editorial presence of the brands she serves. Most recently, she led the transformation of Telemundo Abilene under Nexstar Media, where she played a key role in enhancing and repositioning the station’s news offering. Prior to that, she created and produced Noticias Tampa Hoy, Nexstar Broadcasting’s first Spanish-language newscast as part of WFLA News Channel 8 in Tampa. In this role, she contributed to the design, development, and launch of culturally relevant programming for the Hispanic community. Karen began her career at Telemundo T31 Orlando as a regional news producer for the midday and weekend newscasts serving the Orlando and Tampa markets. Throughout her professional journey, she has built a diverse portfolio in both television and radio, working as an anchor, producer, and on-air talent for Univision Orlando (Entravision) and iHeartMedia. Her work has been recognized on multiple occasions. During her first year with Noticias Tampa Hoy, the project earned a prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award. In Texas, her leadership at Telemundo Abilene was honored with two Telly Awards—Gold and Bronze—as well as a nomination at the Texas Broadcasting Awards, underscoring her excellence in content development and production. She was also previously nominated for the Paoli Awards in Orlando in the Morning Program of the Year category. Additionally, she developed and hosted her own radio project in Orlando, where she served as producer, on-air talent, and commercial manager. Karen holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications and Journalism from the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and has additional certifications in commercial radio announcing and sports journalism.
