Grandpa shot and robbed while walking out of Jacksonville gas station now home from hospital

Jacksonville — A man shot and robbed while walking out of a gas station is now home from the hospital – while the man who shot him is still on the run.

Bennie Flynn, 62, is hurting, both physically and emotionally.

“Tears of hurt, hurt pain,” he said

And, he’s confused, at why anyone would do this.

“But I’m not a bad person, that’s the sad part that hurt me, I’d give my shirt off my back to anyone,” said Flynn.

Flynn had just bought some ice cream and beer at a gas station on Golfair Boulevard on November 13th, when a man with a gun approached him as he was walking to his car. Flynn said the man told him he wanted everything in his pocket. Flynn said he didn’t have time to react as the man pulled the trigger and shot him.

“I saw the fire come out the gun, next thing you know I was on the ground,” said Flynn.

Seconds later, surveillance video showed Flynn running into the gas station holding his stomach. You could see him calling for help.

“I’m a fighter. I may not be 100 percent. But when the public sees me 3-4 months from now, they going to know Bennie is back,” he said.

Flynn said this shooting, four operations, and 14 days in the hospital won’t stop him.

“It’s going to make me stronger. One day I’m going to wake up, ain’t going to be in no pain. I’m going to get up and walk around without my walker, that’s going to be a good sign, that’s going to be a good sign, that’s the day I’m waiting on,” said Flynn.
