FLORIDA — A newly released report from the health department said two children are the first influenza-related deaths in Florida this season and flu activity is on the rise.
There have been at least two outbreaks locally in Putnam and St. Johns counties.
Health officials said flu season is when the risk for children is elevated, especially for those 2 years of age and younger.

Statewide, 83 outbreaks of the flu have been reported so far. 68 of them have been reported at schools and day cares.
People are asked to take preventative steps such as covering up when sneezing or coughing, washing their hands and getting the flu shot.
