15 pounds of weed sent to Clay County through mail from another state

Clay County Sheriff's Office deputies are investigating after drugs were delivered to their area through the mail. Due to the packaging it arrived in, deputies believe it was being marketed to teens.

CCSO public information officer Chris Padgett said from the outside, it looks like candy, but on the inside the product is dangerous.

“Colorful packaging that is known to appeal to our youth, so obviously that (is) something that’s troublesome to us,” Padgett said.

Deputies said they found more than a dozen pounds of marijuana in the mail, along with other forms of the drug.

“So marijuana, edibles, cartridges and then 15 pounds of marijuana that had been shipped from out of state,” Padgett said.

Parents like Derrick Frazier were shocked to know those drugs were sent there.

“It just shows you how the drug dealers are being more sophisticated in marketing these drugs and trying to get our kids,” Frazier said.

Since the investigation is still active, deputies wouldn’t confirm where the items were being shipped from or where they were going.

Deputies just want parents to be aware so they can tell their children how dangerous it is to consume any street drugs.

“We as parents need to be more vigilant and make our kids to be made aware of what’s going on,” Frazier said.

“We want the community to know (it) is very dangerous to purchase these products off the street,” Frazier said.

Narcotics detectives are actively investigating, which is why there are a lot of unanswered questions. Once Action News Jax learns more information, we will be sure to update this story.
