According to AAA, the best times to travel this holiday weekend to avoid crowds are in the early morning hours. The worst times are in the evening and afternoon hours.

Therefore, if you’re traveling this holiday weekend, it may also be a good idea to get to the airport early, since long lines are expected. Air travel is supposed to reach over 13% from last Memorial Day Weekend for Floridians.

Action News Jax had the chance to speak with the Reuben family this morning at Jacksonville International Airport, who are traveling to Washington D.C. for their wedding. They outlined what they’re expecting this weekend.

“We booked quite a while back,” said Adam Reuben. “We’re flying out late on Monday. That’s what worries us, but we figured this morning, we wouldn’t have too many issues.”

For Floridians, over 200,000 are expected to fly, which is a nearly 14% increase from last year, and if crowds aren’t fun enough, AAA said that airfare tickets jumped 40% this year as well for top destinations.

Action News Jax spoke to Brandon Gotwall about the expectations at JIA this morning, and he said, “Typically ya, I try to stick to the rules … beer or two before I go.”

AAA cites Orlando, New York City and Las Vegas as some of the top destinations this weekend, so hit the road early and stay safe.
