Clay County Sheriff’s Office Offers free Explorer Program for youth to learn about law enforcement

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — The Clay County Sheriff’s Office Explorer program is reaching out to the youth in the community, providing them with a unique opportunity to learn about the daily operations of the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

This free program aims to educate young individuals between the ages of 14 and 21 on the purposes, mission, and objectives of law enforcement.

The academy is scheduled to run from July 17 to July 20,

The Explorer program offers a wide range of activities and training, including community service projects, career orientation experiences, and leadership opportunities. Participants will have the chance to train alongside deputies and experience scenarios such as traffic stops and crisis interventions, offering a firsthand understanding of the responsibilities of law enforcement officials.

To be eligible for the program, interested individuals must be enrolled in high school, college, or trade school and maintain a minimum 2.0-grade average.

The age range for participation is between 14 and 20 years, with explorers aging out at 21. Additionally, applicants are required to pass a criminal background check and demonstrate respect for law enforcement. Good moral character, Clay County residency, and regular school attendance are also prerequisites.
