MIDDLEBURG, Fla. — A fire gutted a house in Middleburg that belonged to a family of five just weeks before Christmas.
The home, on Coriander Terrace, was a total loss after flames ripped through just after midnight Monday.
A mother of two, Jessica Granger, her 6-month-old baby and grandmother went to the hospital with smoke inhalation and burns from the fire.

A family friend, Hannah Gibbs, said the baby and grandmother are still intubated at the hospital in Gainesville.
Gibbs is Jessica’s boss and friend of four years.
“[Jessica] sounds real raspy, but she’s doing good,” Gibbs said. “It doesn’t have to be a gutted situation. When there’s tragedy, there’s always something good out of it.”
It’s why she’s now taking donations to help the family when they’re out of the hospital. The house was a total loss, and the family lost everything.
She also set up a GoFundMe which has already raised nearly $10,000 to help the family when they get out of the hospital.
“So they can come out of the hospital and not have to worry about where their child is going to put their head is important for me.”

Granger’s mother, Sam, also fostered several dogs. All but one died in the fire, but their four horses survived.
The fire is under investigation by Clay County Fire Rescue and the family does not know what sparked the flames.
