CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — Crews are working to fix the wall of an apartment building after a car crashed into it Friday afternoon.
Tenants from three apartments will now have to look for a place to stay.
According to Clay Fire Rescue, the driver said she hit the gas instead of the brakes.
It happened just after 1 p.m. at the Lighthouse at Fleming Island apartment homes. No one was seriously hurt, although the driver did ask to be taken to the hospital.
Pictures tweeted by Clay Fire Rescue showed a Toyota Camry almost halfway into one of the units as well as the resulting mess inside someone’s living room.
Six apartments had to evacuate, and three will remain evacuated until further notice.
Action News Jax called the leasing office, but the assistant manager said she couldn’t discuss the matter when asked if the evacuated tenants would be offered vacant apartments.
Two people were evaluated at the scene, but they didn’t need to be taken to the hospital.
Clay Fire Rescue said a structural engineer will inspect the building.
