Coast Guard rescues two people on fishing boat

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Coast Guard rescued two people from a fishing boat battered by stormy weather early Monday.

A call for help came in at 2:16 a.m.

A crew from Mayport arrived at the damaged boat at 2:40 a.m.

The people on the boat were safely rescued and taken to the hospital for an evaluation.

The Coast Guard said debris from the boat is washing ashore up and down the coast, from Atlantic Beach to Huguenot Park.

Authorities don't believe the debris will be a hazard to other boats at sea.
