MARION COUNTY, Fla. — A 33-year-old Crescent City woman was arrested after a stabbing early Saturday morning left a man dead and a woman injured at a home in Marion County.
Amy Hogg faces charges of second-degree murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
Deputies with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded at approximately 3:15 a.m. to a residence on West Highway 318. Upon arrival, officers located the male victim suffering from multiple wounds and immediately detained Hogg.
A news release from the sheriff’s office said first responders attempted to save the man, but he died at the scene.
According to statements provided to investigators, Hogg was a family friend who had arrived the previous evening to stay with the couple.
The surviving female victim told investigators that the group had been drinking alcohol when Hogg became intoxicated. She said an argument began between Hogg and the female victim, which escalated when Hogg pushed her, prompting the male victim to intervene and separate the two.
The release states that a short time later, the female victim heard Hogg and the man shouting and dialed 911. Upon entering the room, she found the male victim bleeding on the floor.
While the woman was on the line with emergency dispatchers, Hogg repeatedly stabbed the male victim while mocking the woman’s pleas for help.
The sheriff’s office said the female victim was injured while disarming Hogg. Personnel from Marion County Fire Rescue treated the surviving woman at the scene for her injuries.
Hogg was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment, where she remains in custody without bond. She will be transferred to the Marion County Jail once she is medically cleared.
